One week in Holden – check.
As “Registrar in Training”, I have transmitted my first radio broadcast,
greeted my first arrival on the bus, made my first announcement that “Transport
has crossed 10 Mile Creek”, and made my first announcement at staff meeting -
Woohoo!
Moving to a new community is tiring, so many people to meet
and try and remember their names and what they do in the village; trying to
learn the rhythm and schedule, and getting trained on the responsibilities and
procedures of the office. It is also
energizing to participate in daily worship, take in wondrous scenery right out
your porch steps, play games, take daily walks, and read to my heart’s content.
Right now I am sharing a chalet room with a volunteer who
will be here one more week and then it looks like I will have this room to
myself until I move to my permanent housing assignment next month. I think I will be able to unpack my sewing
machine and start on a project or two J.
We get two days off each week and right now that is Friday
and Saturday. I am sure it will take a
little getting used to figuring out what to fill my day with on my days off for
there are fewer options. This year will
be a wonderful time for me to learn a new definition of busy. Too often I think I have added things to my
to-do list just so I felt and looked more productive. So here my plan for my days off include
sitting in the sun and reading, hiking, visiting with someone I have just met, and
seeing what the bookstore has to offer – sounds like a plan to me. I hope you weekend is filled with whatever
you would like it to be.
